Benefits for Individuals

Medical and Dental Benefits Planning

You may be one of the growing number of Canadians concerned about the cost of healthcare today. While getting sick is not something we like to think about, illness and accidents can happen to anyone. The good news is that medical advancements help us to live healthy and full lives even after a critical illness or accident occurs.

The problem is that it can leave us financially broke if an alternative source of funding is not available to pay for related medical costs.  OHIP has made recent cutbacks. And for people who travel, the costs of healthcare outside Canada can be extensive.

We can help you plan for health care expenses - whether its a temporary need while you are traveling on a short vacation, or planning for retirement.  Or perhaps you are having visitors from abroad, or have recently become a landed immigrant and are waiting to become eligible for OHIP benefits.  The risk of healthcare expenses is greater than you think.

Personal Insurance Planning

You may have benefits in place today. But when was the last time you had a 'financial check-up' to review their adequacy for today's circumstances and tomorrow's needs?

Group insurance can offer a low-cost method of providing a base for insurance. However, most people will experience 5 - 7 changes in employers and 2 - 3 career path changes during their working years.  This is why it is important to build portability and flexibility into your insurance program.

Life changes can create a need for an insurance review:

- marriage/divorce

- purchase of a home

- birth of children

- estate planning for taxes and last illness expenses

- change in employment status

Your insurance program should provide flexibility for changing needs and should be reviewed on a regular basis.  Contact us for more information on Needs Analysis and  Personal Insurance Planning.

Long Term Care Planning

Retirement planning is a key focus for baby-boomers, with many of them now entering their retirement years. You may feel proud of your accomplishments - the dollars you successfully set aside so you can now enjoy the leisure life style you pictured 10 or 20 years ago.

As important as planning for your healthy years, is also planning for illness as the years go by. While this is a significant issue to both men and women, I am going to address some specific remarks here to women.

That's because like it or not, women face higher odds of needing financial support in their golden years.

Consider these startling facts:

  1. Women have a longer life expectancy than men. That's right - you're going to outlive your partner by at least 5 years!
  2. Despite this, you're going to have more health problems. Disabilities are greater with women than men. And surprisingly, heart attacks affect a growing number of women each year. Our health care system has not yet learned to educate women on this important issue, and to recognize the difference in their symptoms.  Osteoporosis which often affects women after menopause can lead to broken bones. As we age, falls are more likely to occur. In fact, falls are the leading cause for hospitalization for people over age 65 and the main reason for nursing home admission. There are 600 deaths annually in Ontario attributed to falls among people over age 65. A shocking 1/3rd of elders experience 1 or more falls each year.
  3. High divorce rates coupled with longer life expectancy for women means that most women will find themselves on their own during their senior years.

Who will take care of you when you cannot take care of yourself?  The government? - An unlikely source in 10 or 20 years given the funding problems with medicare today.  Your children? - In this mobile society, they may be living 1,000 kilometers away.

You can take control of your own destiny and ensure that you are able to have dignity, choice, and quality in care. Follow the links to learn more.
